Weezy free
Lil’ Wayne was arrested in Boise, Idaho on a felony fugitive warrant issued for him by the court in Fulton County, Georgia. But now Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. is a free man thanks to his attorney.
In a report aired Sunday on Atlanta’s Fox television affiliate, WAGA Channel 5, Lil’ Wayne’s lawyer, William Head, explained to Fox 5 reporter Charles Molineaux that the circumstances that led to his client’s arrest were just a big misunderstanding.
In August of 2006, Wayne was arrested in Atlanta on drug possession charges (3 counts) and released on a $10,000 bond. But after failing to appear at an all-purpose hearing in the case in August of this year he was declared a fugitive. This past Wednesday, October 3rd, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
Head, who is Wayne’s new lawyer in the case, says that his client has been touring since March, and suggests that any notices demanding that he appear in court and offer an additional $10,000 bond went to Wayne’s New Orleans home, and therefore went unanswered. “There’s no way you would know to be in court,” Head explains. “In fact, he had a co-defendant who called me himself and said, ‘My case was dismissed. We thought his was too.’”
Head went on to add, “When someone's this successful, there are chances things are gonna fall in the cracks."
Head was able to procure his client’s release from the Ada County, Idaho jail - where Wayne spent his Saturday - after filing an emergency release order. Fulton County, Georgia judge Craig Schwall appears to have agreed with Head’s argument that his client was not aware of the court proceedings and due to the apparent misunderstanding he should be freed.
Wayne is now free on a $20,000 bond. He is due back in the Fulton County court Tuesday for his arraignment on the charges from 2006. Wayne will spend a good chunk of his week in the ATL, as he attends court on Tuesday and BET’s Hip Hop Awards on Saturday.

Weezy Arrested
Lil Wayne has been arrested in Idaho on a felony fugitive charge after authorities in the state of Georgia accused him of possessing a controlled substance, authorities said.
The 25-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, was arrested after his concert on Friday at Qwest Arena in Boise.
Because of the type of charge, he was not eligible for bond and probably would not get out of jail to make it to Saturday night's concert.
After his arrest, the jail was bombarded with dozens of angry phone calls from fans, concert promoters and others, said a jail deputy who did not want her name to be used because of the public uproar.
"Every other phone call that we've picked up have been about him - people who have tickets wanting to know where his concert will be, people calling to see if it's true that he's incarcerated," the deputy said.
Lil Wayne is scheduled to be formally charged on Tuesday and will be asked then if he plans to waive his extradition to Georgia, the deputy said.
