Democrat Barack Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States on Tuesday, becoming the first African American to win the post and completing a stunningly rapid rise from state senator to the White House. A win in California put Obama over the top, giving him 55 electoral votes — enough to surpass the 270 needed to defeat Republican John McCain and claim the presidency. The Illinois senator won key state after key state Tuesday, with victories in the battlegrounds of Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Pennsylvania being harbingers of the outcome. By early Wednesday, the AP projected Obama had 338 electoral votes. McCain had 141. The popular vote was significantly closer than the electoral vote. With 83% of precincts reporting, Obama led McCain nationally, 51.7% to 47.1%. "If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of the founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer," Obama told thousands of cheering supporters at an enormous rally in Chicago's Grant Park. "I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to. It belongs to you."
Rapper Lil' Boosie is facing drug and weapons charges following his arrest by Louisiana police on Wednesday. The Wipe Me Down star was driving in East Baton Rouge Parish on Wednesday afternoon when he was stopped by cops after they noticed the smell of marijuana wafting from his vehicle. But when officers approached Lil' Boosie, real name Torrance Hatch, to question him about the suspected drug, he is alleged to have refused to step out of his car and driven away.
The police caught up with the MC and arrested him on counts of marijuana possession, possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, and attempting to evade law enforcement, reports Louisiana's The Advocate.
He is currently being behind bars at the local Parish Prison and is due in court at a later date.

Jeezy has been real consistent in his regards to backing up Barack Obama for president. He remains adamant and supportive with election time coming near.
Jeezy even showed love for Biden. "I like Joe [Biden] a little bit better than Sarah," Jeezy said recently. "I understand she's the soccer mom and all that, and that's good. But if something happens to McCain, then what? Do you want a soccer mom to run the country? That's cool. I mean, she can run the house, though. I like Joe, though. Definitely. You got to be tough. I mean, I'm definitely not saying anything against what women do, but at the same time, Joe's firm, Barack [Obama]'s firm. They're straight to the point. They don't beat around the bush. Both parties can do the job, but if I had my pick, I'm definitely going with Joe and Barack. Too much more serious things going on."
As to titling his album, The Recession, Jeezy had this to say.
Yes, we are in a Recession," he said. "Ask [President] Bush, he'll tell you. We got to stand up. We got to be 'We the people' on this one. It's on us, you know what I mean? That's what we got to do. We got to stick together. I really wanted to get me on [the album], expressing my feelings, my concerns about what's going on. I wanted to make good music around this time, but I also wanted to drop a couple gems about what's going on in the economy and stuff like that. Sometimes we look over it. We don't tap into it until election time."

No, it isn't Wayne. Nor Jay. Sorry, not even Nas. Vibe has announced that the winner of the best rapper alive, voted by the fans is no other than Eminem.
"It's obviously an honor to have won the fans' support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive," Em said in a statement released Tuesday (October 7). "I don't think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best, though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since Vibe's offering the distinction, hell yeah, I'll accept!"
In the NCAA formatted style bracket, the fans came down to two of their favorite MCs: Jay-Z, and Eminem. By a landslide, Eminem defeated Young Hova with a whopping 69% of votes going to him.
Vibe's music editor Sean Fennessey had this to say about Eminem's latest victory. "Eminem isn't just one of the most successful MCs of all time, he's also one of the most beloved. The proof is in the voting."
Em hasn't released an album in four years, and is said to be currently working on his next album. Congrats To Mr. Mathers, as he will receive the red carpet treatment in Vibe's November issue that graces Presidential candidate Barack Obama on the cover.
LATEST: Rapper RICK ROSS has confessed he once worked as a prison officer after initially denying the rumours. Ross went so far as to accuse Internet pranksters of faking photos of him in uniform, when snapshots appeared on website TheSmokingGun.com in July (08). But, in the latest issue of Don Diva magazine, he reportedly backs down and admits it really is him in the photographs. He is quoted saying, "Yes, it's me. I never tried to hide my past. I put my name inside my CDs." But Ross insists his prison guard past doesn't make him a 'snitch' and it doesn't diminish his role as one of hip hop's hard-hitting heavyweights. He adds, "I never ratted on a ni**a. I never prosecuted a ni**a. I never locked up a ni**a, that's first and foremost. "I always felt that me being the ni**a that I am, I never owed a ni**a an explanation. When I'm making my music and I'm talking about blow, it's because I did it. When I say that I'm rich off cocaine, it's because I did it. Those are the street principals that apply."
